Question: I would like to know what you would use for your own deck. Real wood or new composites. And if composites which one, heard
lots of stories, and I know people don't want to admit that it sucks after you pay that much for it. I hope somebody can be
honest and say the truth. I know that it will get better in time, but what's best now? Answer: I started using
composite decking about ten years ago when it first came out. Monarch, Evergrain, and Trex seems the 3 most popular.
Monarch seems to be the best in the fact it is stronger and holds up better, but that is certainly reflected in the price.
Evergrain is good for public or very high traffic areas. Trex seems to have a little of both affordability and nice looks
(depending on the type you get). It does scratch with heavy or sharp items, but you also get that with wood.
As
far as what I would recommend to my customers and friends, I have to go with the Trex. I have used it the most and found the
most appealing. For my personal choice, I have used it (Trex) on my parents front porch stairs several years ago and it is
holding up fine. I have, last fall, put on to my own house a 400 sq ft deck. I normally use cedar for the railings, the composite
railing systems are a little too pricy still and but give it a nice touch..but everyone is different or has
different needs.
I hope that this helps.
Good Luck to you.
